England, who retained the Ashes in 2010 by beating Australia 3-1, will host the Ashes in 2013 and the venues for the five Test matches were confirmed earlier this year. Lord's, Old Trafford, Trent Bridge, the Riverside Ground and The Oval will host the five Test matches.

There were doubts over Lord’s as one of the five venues but it was later confirmed that they will host the Test.

The Ashes 2013 will the first of two back-to-back Ashes series that will be held in a bid to ensure that the two teams, Australia and England do meet in such a vital series before World Cup cricket.

England won the 2005 Ashes after a period of 18 years before Australia crushed them 5-0 at home in 2006-07. England extracted revenge by winning the 2009 Ashes 2-1 before retaining the title by defeating Australia 3-1 in 2010-11.
