The Vidarbha Cricket Association Ground in Nagpur will be the setting on Sunday, January 29 as India take on England in the second Twenty20 contest of their three-match series.
The visitors currently lead the series 1-0 after winning the opener at Kanpur on Thursday. England were under no pressure throughout the match courtesy of some poor shot selection from India’s batsmen and went on to win with ease in the end.
England captain Eoin Morgan won the toss at The Green Park and chose to field first. Virat Kohli came into the middle to open the batting with Lokesh Rahul for company at the other end. While the former struck 29 runs off 26 deliveries, Rahul was out for just eight runs.
Suresh Raina did well on his return to the side to make 34 runs off 23 deliveries but the manner in which he was dismissed was poor. The same can be said about Yuvraj Singh and Hardik Pandya as well. Had it not been for MS Dhoni’s intervention, India would have struggled to get past 120 runs. However, Dhoni top-scored with 36 off 27 deliveries to help India post 147/7 in the first 20 overs.
Moeen Ali was the pick of England’s bowlers with a couple of wickets and all four of their remaining bowlers were also rewarded with one wicket each.
During the chase, Jason Roy and Sam Billings had given England an excellent start, hitting 42 runs in the first 19 deliveries before both were cleaned up by Yuzvendra Chahal in his first over.
That brought Joe Root and Morgan to the center and the duo helped England complete the chase with 11 deliveries to spare. While Root hit an unbeaten 46 at a-run-a-ball, Morgan top-scored with 51 runs before perishing to Parvez Rasool, who earned his first India cap.
Going into this upcoming contest, England need victory to claim the series. India on the other hand, will be gunning to go level at 1-1 on Sunday after a poor showing on Thursday. Kohli and Raina will be important players with the bat while Chahal holds the key with the ball for India. England will look to Morgan to inspire the team to yet another win. The man is in fine form and will pose a major threat to the opposition.
Match starts at 7 pm local time (1:30 pm GMT).
