Back India to beat England in 3rd ODI at bet365 at 1/2
The home side have already wrapped up the series with wins in the first two ODIs at Pune and Cuttack. While Virat Kohli and Kedar Jadhav powered India to a win in the first ODI, Yuvraj Singh and MS Dhoni rolled back the years with a couple of scintillating knocks on Thursday before some good bowling at the death saw India win at the Barabati stadium in Cuttack.
In the last ODI in Cuttack, England skipper Eoin Morgan won the toss and elected to chase. The decision looked like an inspired one when Chris Woakes dismissed Lokesh Rahul, Shikhar Dhawan and Kohli in his first spell to leave India reeling at 25/3.
That brought Yuvraj and Dhoni at the center and the two went on to script a 256-run stand for the fourth wicket to lift the hosts. While Yuvraj posted a career best 150 runs off 127 deliveries on the occasion, Dhoni hit 134 off 122 deliveries. The duo hit a total of 31 boundaries and nine maximums during their stay at the center. Following Yuvraj’s dismissal in the 43rd over, Jadhav, Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja did well with the bat to help India finish with 381/6.
England showed a lot of fight in the second period of the contest but finished 15 runs short of India’s total with 366/8. Jason Roy and Joe Root both scored good fifties to put England on course while skipper Morgan scored 102 runs on the occasion.
The visitors looked to be in control when Morgan and Moeen Ali (55) were batting at the center. However, the game turned once Bhuvneshwar Kumar got rid of Ali. Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah did well in the last few overs after Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin did superbly well with the ball. While Jadeja returned figures of 45/1 from 10 overs, Ashwin claimed three wickets on the occasion.
Jadeja has become a key player for India over the last year thanks to his bowling. Ashwin’s ability to pick crucial wickets makes him a key man as well for India and these two will have big roles to play on an Eden wicket that usually favours spin bowling. Bumrah and Kumar are likely to employ the slower balls and cutters quite often in these conditions as Kohli looks to be amongst the runs once again.
The visitors have not been able to win any of their matches on tour so far. They have not been far behind though and have played some very good cricket. However, they need to do better collectively if they are to get an end product. The top-order batsmen need to convert their fifties into hundreds if they are to trouble the hosts. Woakes has been their biggest threat in the series and one would expect him to be a key man in this upcoming contest.
Match starts at 1:30 pm local time (8 am GMT).
