Will Ireland qualify for the 2019 World Cup?

10 teams could continue to feature in the 2019 World Cup but there will only be eight direct qualifiers for the competition in what will be a different format of the tournament.

The top eight sides according to the ICC ODI Rankings as on September 30, 2017 will get a direct entry into the main draw of the 2019 World Cup. Currently, there are 12 countries which are ranked by the ICC in the ODI format, which includes the ten Test-playing nations - or full Members - and Ireland and Afghanistan. 

After eight of these 12 will be given a direct qualification for the tournament, the remaining four will feature in a Qualifier that will be played in March-April 2018 in Bangladesh. This Qualifier will also have six other teams, making it a tournament played by 10 sides, of which the top two will make it to the 2019 World Cup.

These six other teams will be decided on the basis of four other tournaments - the 2016 ICC World Cricket League Division FOUR, the 2017 ICC World Cricket League Division THREE, the 2017 ICC World Cricket League Division TWO and the the 2015-17 ICC World Cricket League Championship.

Currently, the 2015-17 ICC World Cricket League Championship is going on, which is contested by eight teams, namely Scotland, UAE, Hong Kong, PNG, Netherlands, Namibia, Kenya and Nepal. At the end of this tournament, the top four of these sides will make it to the Qualifier to join the bottom four in the ICC ODI Rankings.

The remaining two teams, to make it 10 in the Qualifiers, will come from the the 2017 ICC World Cricket League Division TWO. The the 2017 ICC World Cricket League Division TWO will comprise of six teams, i.e. bottom four from the the 2017 ICC World Cricket League Championship and the top two from the the 2017 ICC World Cricket League Division THREE. 

The 2017 ICC World Cricket League Division THREE has Canada, Malaysia, Singapore and Uganda getting joined by the top teams from the the 2017 ICC World Cricket League Division FOUR. The 2017 ICC World Cricket League Division FOUR has Denmark, Italy, Bermuda, USA, Oman and Jersey competing for the top two spots in a tournament that will be played in the USA in October-November 2016.

The 2019 World Cup will be played in England & Australia will start off as defending champions.

The 2016 ICC World Cricket League Division FOUR has six teams.

Top Two Qualify for The 2017 ICC World Cricket League Division THREE and join four other teams.

Top Two Qualify for 2017 The ICC World Cricket League Division TWO and join four others (bottom four from the 2015-17 ICC World Cricket League Championship)

Top Two Qualify for the 2018 ICC World Cup Qualifier. They will be joined by top four in the 2015-17 ICC World Cricket League Championship & bottom four in the ICC ODI Rankings.

Top Two from the 2018 ICC World Cup Qualifier to play in the 2019 World Cup. They will join the Top Eight in the ICC ODI Rankings who get a Direct Entry.
