More than 100,000 ICC World T20 2012 tickets have been sold according to the ICC as the third phase of the sales begins today.
Most of the sales have come from Sri Lanka as the country gears up for the ICC World T20 2012 which begins from September this year. The tournament will be played between September 18 and October 7 in Colombo, Hambantota and Pallekelle.
According to the tournament director of the ICC World Twenty20 Sri Lanka 2012, Upekha Nell, "Surpassing 100,000 in ticket sales in this short time is an evidence of the interest cricket fans have in this year's ICC World Twenty20 Sri Lanka 2012. It is also a proud moment for us as it acknowledges the success of the new ticket sale methodology we have implemented for this tournament.”
He also added that with almost a couple of months left for the event, more tickets are expected to be sold in the month of August.
It was reported that around 55 per cent of the ICC World T20 tickets were bought by Sri Lankan public and 40 per cent of the tickets were purchased by fans over the internet.
The first phase of the ICC World T20 ticket started from March 26 while the second phase was launched on the June 12.
The third and final phase begins from today, August 1, and continue until the start of the tournament in September.
The good news for cricket fans is that none of the matches are sold out they can still buy tickets for all the matches in the third phase of the sales. Ticket prices are as low as $0.25 for the single group games with the ICC World T20 final tickets costing anywhere between $2.50 and $45.
