After months of administrative issues, financial and contractual problems and speculations around the participation of Pakistani players, the Bangladesh Premier League kick starts from Friday with a couple of interesting games. Four of the seven teams in the competition will be on display.

First up it will be the defending champions Dhaka Gladiators, who take on the Khulna Royal Bengals in the opening game of the tournament at Dhaka. Dhaka had last played Khulna in the previous season’s semi-final, a game that the Gladiators won by nine runs.

Dhaka are captained by Mashrafe Mortaza while Khulna Royal Bengals will have Shahriar Nafees leading them.

Following this encounter, previous BPL season runner-up Barisal Burners will be up against Sylhet Royals at Dhaka. The Burners had batted well to make it to the previous year’s final but came cropper against the Gladiators to lose by eight wickets.

Barisal Burners will be led by all-rounder Azhar Mahmood, while Sylhet will be captained by Bangladesh skipper Mushfiqur Rahim.

The Dhaka v Khulna game begins at 2 pm local time (8 pm GMT) and the Barisal v Sylhet match starts at 6 pm local time (12 noon GMT) on January 18.
