The Champions League T20, which has the world’s best cricket clubs playing against each other on an annual basis, has been held in India in 2009 and 2011, while it was hosted by South Africa in 2010.

A Champions League T20 Governing Council meeting was held in Chennai at the end of the Indian Premier League and it was decided that there was a possibility of the CLT20 being transferred to South Africa this season.

Speaking to a cricket website, Cricket South Africa acting CEO Jacques Faul said, "It could be a possibility [that SA will host] but we will only know later in June. There are problems with the IPL qualifiers venues for the CLT20 but there has been no final decision yet."

Two other announcements were made through Twitter by IPL and CLT20 CEO, Sundar Raman. One was related to the inclusion of a Pakistani team in the Champions League T20 this season and the other was to do with CLT20 schedule, which he said will be released at the end of June.

Last season, the total prize money on offer in the CLT20 was $6 million, with the winner getting $2.5 million. Mumbai Indians are the defending champions in the CLT20.
