The Indian cricket team plays under the auspices of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and represents the country in all the formats of the game.

India, which is often referred to as Team India, is one of the strongest cricket countries in the world, after having begun playing the game in 1932.

The BCCI is a governing body for the Indian cricket team and first class cricket in India and has been around since 1929. Apart from being a governing body, it also looks after the finances associated with the Indian cricket team and is easily the richest cricket board in the world.

They won a whopping US$ 612,000,000 as money for the TV rights for seven years of Indian cricket and improved upon that figure for the next deal that they signed. They also host the Indian Premier League, which is the richest T20 league in the world. Some of the top players featuring in the IPL earn as much as a couple of million dollars for playing in six weeks of the tournament.

India plays Australia for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which is one of the most important Test series after The Ashes. The Indians also feature in Tests against England called the Pataudi Trophy, while their games against Pakistan evoke a lot of passion and interest around the world.

Some of the best players around the world have represented India in international cricket including the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Kapil Dev and Sunil Gavaskar. Tendulkar is the holder of many records including the most recent one of 100 international centuries and the highest scores in both, Tests and ODIs. Gavaskar was the first ever batsman in the world to score 10k runs in Test match cricket and Kapil Dev held the record for the most number of wickets in the Test match cricket.

Among the other big-name cricketers to have featured for India are Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman, Virender Sehwag, Sourav Ganguly, Dilip Vengsarkar, Mohammad Azaharuddin, Anil Kumble, Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer Khan, Vinoo Mankad, S Venkatraghvan, E Prasanna, Bishen Singh Bedi.
